The campsites are well marked, neat and clean, as well as the ablutions. There is an restaurant and the food is good.
We loved the running trails.
Island Safari Lodge has clearly been around for a long time. It's well established, however, it is also very dated in terms of facilities. The restaurant food wasn't great and the restaurant isn't enclosed so there's no air conditioner and you have to fight the mosquitoes inside. The rooms don't have fridges and you can't drink the water (notices up in the rooms). This would've been helpful to know before we arrived so we could've brought bottled water. However, the air conditioner in the room worked 24/7 and is probably the most important feature here in summer. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful, breakfasts are decent and the location is ok. Farm land, livestock grazing and crops, right across the river detracts from the location. In comparison to the other accommodation we saw nearby, this seemed the best and hence why they can charge what they do because besides the location is isn't really value for money.
Very good experience with very helpful staff. Some negative points: The Chalet was fumigated before we moved in, we could not stand the smell and it impacted our breathing. The morning of 01 January 2018, there was no water for us to shower, which was a bit disappointing. After our bookings were confirmed and availability checked, I was contacted by a staff member of Island Safari Lodge to be informed that they do not have accommodation for me for the night of 31 December 2017. I had to take a hard stand on this and informed them to check with SafariNow who did the booking and availability check. I was informed that they will get back to me on the availability. This is while I was busy driving 900km to Maun for New Years Eve break. Nobody got back to me and the way it was handled left a bad taste in my mouth.

Establishment Response:

Dear Hendrik,

Thank you for taking the time to review, and for choosing to stay at Island Safari Lodge. Your support is really very much appreciated. We are happy to hear that you had an overall great experience at Island Safari Lodge, but have also taken careful note of your comments and constructive feedback. We would like to sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding in regards to your reservation and availability, one of our reservation staff who is still in training handled this and unfortunately got it wrong. This should have been supervised by management, but unfortunately did not. We are really sorry that this had a negative impact on your booking experience. I have also taken the time to discuss the fumigation with the Lodge manager, and apparently it was a routine Mosquito spray due to the onset of the rains to combat the risk of Malaria. Whilst harmless to humans we have asked the contractor to rather use an odourless spray in future. We had exceeded the time that they had recommended we keep the building aired and clear, and assumed it was all good. Again, apologies for this.

Thank you again for your support of Island Safari Lodge, It is very much appreciated.
Third time at this resort. Love the setting that is why I came back.
