About 7 km northwest from Rakops in Botswana you will find the Rakops Lodge – or more correctly known, the Rakops River Lodges.
The lodge is only 45 km from the Matswere Gate of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and 60 km from Kumaga Gate of the Makgadikgadi National Park. Lake Xau about 60 km away and all the rivers in the Okavango Delta, such as the Thamalakane River, end at the lake. The Rakops River Lodge is surrounded by short Setshi bush and Candle Thorn bush. They are often visited by the Makgadikgadi elephants during winter. Visitors can choose between individually thatched guestrooms with shower and flat screen television or camping facilities. The rooms are small, but spotlessly clean and very well equipped. DStv is available at the lodge. There is also a restaurant that offers full breakfast. Lunch and dinner are served on request. The campsite is modern, with each campsite boasting a lapa (traditional fireplace). The ablution blocks offer hot showers and modern clean toilets according to international standards.

The welcoming was not very good. Some staff was just staring at us some 70 meters away, attempting and succeeding to open the entrance gate. Although the area around the sleeping quarters was clear, the grass inside the fenced- in area was not cut and about 1.5m high. The unit was small and cramped. We requested ice from the Reception and received only 8 ice cubes and that was the end of cooling facilities. We can not recommend this establishment as a stay over on the long road to Maun.
